Case Highlights
making law on short notice: As a very young lawyer, Randy was handed a case at the eleventh hour. With virtually no preparation time, he devised and presented an argument that provided the sole basis for an appeal resulting in a reversal of the lower court's ruling. It later became the seminal decision in Arizona on the enforcement of foreign judgments. That decision has become one of the most frequently cited decisions on that issue in the western U.S.
changing a judge's mind: Randy opposed a noted bankruptcy lawyer in a dispute regarding whether notice was given to a secured-creditor that Randy represented. The judge summarily ruled against Randy's client, but the Court of Appeals then remanded the matter back to the judge, requiring that he conduct a hearing on the merits. After hearing Randy's arguments, the judge reversed himself and ruled in favor of Randy's client, ultimately saving the client hundreds of thousands of dollars.
